Staplers, to office freaks, are like peace signs to hippies. They bring a certain type of meaning to our universe and identity to our soul. We see a stapler on our desk and we know we’re grown-ups now. Yeah. That’s right. I have my own stapler. I have arrived.
The beautiful Swingline(R) Ready Grip Staplers
, above, are straight-up gorgeous. They’re from the mecca for Office Freaks, Office Depot, and I think I must have one in every color.
Description from The Mecca’s site (OfficeDepot.com):
The Ready Grip stapler delivers exceptional comfort and control. Soft-touch material makes for added comfort, and the durable half-strip mechanism offers long life. Contemporary form fits the hand perfectly. Compact, upright design gives go-anywhere convenience. Features low staple indicator. Staples 2 to 20 sheets of 20 lb paper.
I’m also pretty sweet on the Stanley(R) Bostitch Electric Desktop Stapler, Black
shown below.

You have to admit, he’s a hottie in his own right.
Description From Office Depot:
* Impulse Drive™ technology allows for quick, efficient stapling.
* Super-sensitive optical trip fire mechanism.
* Staples up to 20 sheets with rapid cycles.
* Backed by the manufacturer’s 7-year limited warranty.

If your office style has higher brows than Joan Crawford, the Envoy Blue Ocean Illuminated Floor Globe
might be of interest to you.
This beauty is from National Geographic’s online store, so you know it has to be extremely well made and extremely handsome. National Geographic’s legendary cartographers use a process that combines 17 layers of rich color printing with specially developed materials to create these virtually unbreakable state-of-the-art globes.
With the light off, the globe shows a wealth of political data and 5,000 place names, all printed in the patented National Geographic typeface. With the light on, the physical world is revealed with meticulously hand-drawn mountains, valleys, vegetation zones, and ocean floors.
This beautiful globe would be as magnificent in the home as it would be in the workplace. During the years I home-schooled my three daughters, this would have been an amazing resource. Actually, it would still be a great resource. While playing Trivia Pursuit, if I got one of the hateful Geography questions, I could simply announce that I had to be in the next room for a minute… I left my drink in there, I needed to pet my cat, I suddenly forgot what color my throw pillows were – you know, a fib most excellent.
Details:
- 14″ diameter
- 39″ high with walnut-finished stand
- Cord is concealed by running through the base
- Lifetime guarantee
- Comes with a certificate of authenticity and a booklet on globemaking
If you’re a little weak in the geography area or you simply want something super gorgeous in your office or home, click the following link and take a closer look: Envoy Blue Ocean Illuminated Floor Globe

The Natural Bamboo Roll-Up Office Chair Mat
is from Belacor Lighting and Home Furnishings and I’m pretty wild about it. I love the look of wood, for one thing, and for another – I’m so over the plastic chair mats with the unforgiving teeth. I doubt my carpet is any more thrilled with them as my feet have been on occasion.
Product Description:
- 100% Anji Mountain bamboo
- 5MM thick
- The dimension for the depth is at the lounge of the mat
- Premium felt backing for cushioning and to protect the floor surface
- Rolls up for easy shipping and portability
- Coated with 7 layers of Klumpp UV finish
- No assembly is required
The handsome Natural Bamboo Roll-Up Office Chair Mat
is currently on sale and qualifies for free shipping, so there’s really no good reason not to click through for more information.
Unless you’ve made peace with the plastic piranhas.

Many companies – online and off – are in full Back to School savings mode. Any office freak worth their weight in paper clips knows that means one thing: It’s Christmas in July! If you’re anything like me, you find yourself hovered around the season’s new notebooks, pens, binders (my pulse is starting to race), paper clips, index cards, post it notes – right there with the kiddies.
Remember the scene from Andy Griffith where Andy’s telling Opie and his friends about the Minute Men – trying to turn them on to history? Andy’s encouraging them to start a history club. Barney’s standing right behind the boys, hanging on every word. When he can’t stand it any more, he blurts out, “Will you help us?!?!”
I was perusing the seasons new binders yesterday at Target, amongst about 5 giggling little girls – and the scene above played out in my head. I didn’t let it deter me, though. I had my eye on a killer purple binder and had no intention of letting one of the gigglers get to it before me.
Yay, me.
Below are a few office supply bargains I’ve rounded up. Sure, some might call them Back to School sales – but we know what they are: Signs that God loves office freaks.

I love Business Cards
so much you’d think I invented the idea. They’re brilliant! Business cards are perfect for spreading your name around town, keeping it in front of potential customers, and (most importantly) for making a great first impression. If someone has business cards printed up – and they look chic – you know they’re serious about what they do. They’re in it to win it!
With VistaPrint, you can design and customize your own business cards with your very own logo or photo, or you can choose from a really wide array of templates tailored to your industry or niche. What’s more, if you’re searching for a sleek, professional look, you can customize your business cards by selecting a matte or glossy finish, foil-accents and more. Get an electronic business card as well, and jazz up your email signature. These are verrrry impressive.
Like all VistaPrint products, you can create your business cards in minutes and receive them in as few as 3 days.
VistaPrint also has postcards, sticky notes, letterheads, presentation folders, mouse pads, hats, window decals, lawn signs, photo cards, note cards, return address labels, stamps, announcements, invitations, t-shirts (yes, t-shirts), and more. So, if you’re looking to get personal, you can get everything you need in one place – all with the same logo and design and all delivered to you in a matter of days.
Start with Business Cards
and simply build from there. New year… time to buckle down and get completely serious!

Okay, this guy qualifies for “most unusual.” Check out this fun little alarm clock. It’s the The Start Your Engines Alarm Clock
and I’m pretty sure that people who normally sleep through alarm clocks have met their match.
The Start Your Engines alarm clock awakens you with the sound of a high-powered V8 engine increasing its revolutions per minute as it cycles through four gears to top speed. Sounds like me at a stop light. Such a sweet rush comes from being first out of the gate.
A tachometer surrounding the digital time window displays a needle that moves as the rpm increase to its redline of 6 000 rpm. The engine sound will grow in pitch and intensity until you press the snooze button. Press… slam… tomato…tomatoe….
A headlight button allows you to illuminate the time and tachometer display for easy viewing at night; backlight turns off after 10 seconds. Also includes an AM/FM radio.
This alarm clock is perfect for waking up in time for the office. Or (depending upon your work ethic) perfect for waking up in time to go home. Again, tomato… tomatoe.

We Kentuckians have four seasons just like everyone else:
- College Basketball Season
- Post-College Basketball Season
- Catch Your Breath Season (lasts an average of 3-1/2 days)
- Pre-College Basketball Season
So, yeah, college basketball is pretty much always on our mind. During the first season of the year (#1 if you were paying attention), our stores and malls are covered with blue-clad fanatics. Every now and then there’ll be a University of Louisville fan. Brave, brave souls. They look like little cherry lifesavers in a blue ocean.
The fantastic FanMats University of Kentucky Basketball Mat F0005162 at the top is precisely what your office needs. It’s from Unbeatable Sale and it should be the next thing you buy.
There are, I assume other college basketball teams available – I suppose you could click through and see. I’m not sure why you’d want to support a Non-Callipari led team, but whatevs.

I’ve found a new website that I’m absolutely addicted to – Useful Things.com. They have gifts, gadgets, gizmos, and goodies that you literally just won’t find anywhere else. Best of all, everything is on the very, very cheap.
The first thing I ever got from Useful Things was the Posy Desktop Photo/Memo Holder you see pictured above. When I saw its price ($12.95), I kind of thought, “Uh oh, this is going to be a hot little mess,” but I was delighted to see that it’s not only very well made, it’s a knock out!
It’s perfect for showcasing pictures of loved ones, whether they’re sweethearts, kids, pets, or yourself. Whoever motivates you, inspires you, and makes you smile. My favorite use for mine is this: I like to put my most important To Do tasks on an index card – ones that are more like Gotta Dos than To Dos – and then I stick the index card into one of the slots.
No excuses then! It’s right there staring at me along with my cats’ smiling faces. This process has honestly helped a great deal, because you know how To Do lists are – they get misplaced, stuff gets piled up on them, you forget if this was yesterday’s list or last week’s (hey, it happens).
Find more Office Gifts at Useful Things.com. While on the site, check out the other “shops,” like the ones for the kitchen and the home. You’ll find them under the Shop Menu tab at the top. You’re going to love these, I guarantee it.
Speaking of love, three words: See Star Trek. Three more: Best Movie Ever.
