If you have a taste for the unusual (and I’ve heard that you do), you’ll be as impressed with this The Claremont Helmet Lidded Bin
as I am. No doubt you’ve heard about my own quirky taste for the unusual.
The sure-to-be-the-talk-of-the-office The Claremont Helmet Lidded Bin
is from a retailer I’m completely obsessed with – Design Toscano.
To put it simply, they’re just as off-beat as we are. They, no doubt, have an inner Office Freak, and he – make no mistake about it – knows how to get his freak on.
Product Description:
Though the “Claremont” is an accurately rendered, medieval sculpture, the helmet opens to make this knight eminently useful in the charming English tradition of “the book hide”—as a dust bin with removal mesh basket, an ice bucket, a storage compartment, or as a stash for your latest cloak-and-dagger novel! Accurately sculpted, then cast in quality designer resin and finished as faux metal, this is a functional work of decorative art for your castle.
11″Wx12½”Dx16″H. 9 lbs.

Bet you didn’t expect to see a Medieval Helmet here – with a black plume no less. What can I say, I wanted to catch you off guard.
This handsome conversation starter is just the thing I needed to kick off a new category here on Office Freaks: Most Unusual. I think it fits the billing, don’t you?
This Roman Steel Helmet Knights Medieval Armor W Black Plume
is for decorative purposes only, so if you were thinking of wearing it to freak out your wife or co-workers, you’ll have to move on to Plan B.
Product Description:
Medieval reproduction Roman helmet is handmade from steel metal. Gladiator Knight helmet was used around 14th century. The helmet has a black brush plume on the top. There is no inside lining in the helmet. Please note this helmet is for decorative purpose only, not for personal use.

Neon, Tokyo, Japan Wall Mural
Buy at AllPosters.com
I have fallen absolutely in love with everything Japan. Owensboro (home) recently got a fantabulous new Japanese restaurant, Ninki’s, and it sort of launched the love affair. They have a Kentucky Roll (sushi) that I could eat 5 times a day…. easily.
I love the beauty of the culture as well. Everything seems so vivid and alive – right about now, in the vile grips of a Monday bent on annoying me, I could use a little vividness.
And sushi wouldn’t hurt….

We Kentuckians have four seasons just like everyone else:
- College Basketball Season
- Post-College Basketball Season
- Catch Your Breath Season (lasts an average of 3-1/2 days)
- Pre-College Basketball Season
So, yeah, college basketball is pretty much always on our mind. During the first season of the year (#1 if you were paying attention), our stores and malls are covered with blue-clad fanatics. Every now and then there’ll be a University of Louisville fan. Brave, brave souls. They look like little cherry lifesavers in a blue ocean.
The fantastic FanMats University of Kentucky Basketball Mat F0005162 at the top is precisely what your office needs. It’s from Unbeatable Sale and it should be the next thing you buy.
There are, I assume other college basketball teams available – I suppose you could click through and see. I’m not sure why you’d want to support a Non-Callipari led team, but whatevs.

I think my husband would all kinds of freak out for this guy. Check him out!
The Holmes HL1261H Robot Desk Lamp
is an interactive lamp with and adjustable head, body arms and legs so you can change him around from day to day. If you’re having a “Me against the World!” day, he can carry his head high, put his hands on his hips (?) and beckon the world to bring it on.
If you’re having one of those days where you want to hide under your desk, he can hang his head and coyly put his arms behind his back. Or you could scoot him close to the edge and let him peer under the desk, looking for you.
He’s the perfect way to bring more fun and laughs into your office – everyone will want one of their own so badly, you may have to arm yours to protect him from abduction. His little hands can actually clutch things, so he could hold a little sword, I guess.
Other Features:
- Clip On Hands for Holding Pens, Notes, Swords
- In Line On Off Switch
- Chrome Satin Finish with Black Joints & Cord
- Rated for 20 Watt High Intensity Bulb (included)
- Product Dimensions: 12 x 5.6 x 9.1 inches
- Shipping Weight: 6 pounds

Of course, even with these killer features, it wouldn’t mean jack if their lamps weren’t so amazingly unique and gorgeous – but, fortunately, they’re that and more.

I love Halloween as much as any 9 or 10 year old. The candy, the pumpkins, the popcorn balls, ghosts – all of it makes me feel like a kid at Disneyland.
I’ve been looking around for fun Halloween-themed decorations for offices and here’s what I’ve turned up. First up, there’s the Crazed Cat
and the Scary Cat
from Shop.com.
From the website:
Even your most superstitious guests will want to cross paths with our Wild Black Cats. At a generous 19″, these frenzied felines bring substantial fun to any Halloween decor display.Spooky cats feature yellow eyes, bared teeth, whiskers, and faux fur. Each Halloween cat strikes a hilariously exaggerated pose. Each cat is alarmingly charming posed on a table or on the floor.
I’d be all for them, but they might just scare the willies off of our real cats. I don’t want that to happen and I have no idea what willies even are.

I also love the Spooky Halloween Wreath
. It looks like something Lilly Munster or Mrs. Adams Family would hang on their door year round. I guess it’s obvious which of those shows I watched the most. I can’t for the life of me think of the mom on The Adams Family’s name. The dad either – or the chubby little boy, or the creepy bald man…. Lurch was the butler, Wendy was the little girl and the hand was called the Thing..or was it an It? Eh, I just flunked Adams Family 101, didn’t I?
Finally, check out the spooks below. They’re probably a bit too much for the office, but how cool would they be out front? Personally, I’m hoping my husband doesn’t buy one of one of these – my overly-caffeinated nerves couldn’t take it. I’m pretty sure I’d either end up on the garage or under the house. I’m reasonable like that.

Black Deluxe Standing Ghost with Flashing Eyes

There’s only a week left in the Staples sale on Office Furniture. But, for us that’s plenty of time, right? We’re on top of this! Below are some of my personal favorite finds, along with how much money we can save, IF we act before October 4th.

Office Star™ Brown Leather Executive Chair with Cocoa Finish
(Save $50!)
Features:
Brown leather with cocoa coated frame
Leather padded loop arms
Built-in lumbar support
The last gorgeous chair (brown leather, cocoa finish – yeah, that one) comes in black, ivory, and this particular color (cocoa). The cocoa’s my favorite because, come on, how can you go wrong with something that looks like chocolate AND coffee? The cocoa one also happens to cost the least – until October 4, it’s just under $100! The gorgeous ivory chair is another one I love – it’s only $149 for one more week (also a savings of $50!). Hmmmm, we have two computer work stations in our home office, an ebony chair and an ivory one would make a hot black/white theme, wouldn’t they? It’d actually be pretty hot because I have our home office decorated with black and white pictures of James Dean, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, etc.
Eh. I’m sticking with cocoa. What can I say, it’s love. I’ll redecorate. I’ll grab two cocoa chairs and re-do the room with a coffee house theme. Yeah, baby, that’s what I’m talking about.
Obviously, these are just a few of the chairs (guess what I’m currently shopping around for) at Staples.com. You can also save BIG on desks, work centers, file cabinets, shelves, collections, computer carts (like the beautiful Sauder Heritage Hill Computer Cart, Cherry Finish
), wall decor, etc.
If you’re ever going to heed the words of this particular Office Freak, do it this week. The savings are mad. This is THE time to give your office the look and feel you want it to have. After all, think how much time we spend in our offices, whether they’re in our home or not. We should provide ourselves with an environment that inspires, motivates, and comforts us.
Cocoa chairs, start rolling my way! That was easy.
EDIT: I just happened to think (after walking past a daughter sprawled on the floor doing homework), now would be an ideal time to grab super fantastic, functional, and long-lasting Christmas gifts for the students in your life. Whether they’re in grade school, high school, or college – having their own professional-looking desk, work station, computer cart, and chair would serve to motivate them as much as our beloved office furniture motivates us.
