As I lie here in the floor of my den, watching my St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball team try to find their groove (keep looking boys!) – something occurs to me:  We have, indeed, become a plugged-in generation. Personally, I love it. I can catch up on work while watching the wonderful sport of baseball.

What’s not to love? (Except for that double play one of my guys just hit into.)

I can see how some people – especially parents or unplugged spouses who are married to plugged-ins – are disturbed by the technological era, but as someone who works entirely online in and near her home office, I dance around the situation.  And never have to unplug while doing so.

Sweet.

Anyone with a home office knows how deceptive the phrase truly is. It implies that there’s one special room – usually in the back of the house – with a big brown door. You open the door and voila! there’s a big, beautiful home office with rich mahogany furniture, bookshelves filled to the brim with knowledge, computers, laptops, plants, and every office supply known to exist. The room would look like something out of a Staples or Office Depot catalog and would be enough to make an office freak pass out from excitement.

My knees are getting weak as it is.

However, if we’re to be honest – few home offices are quite as picture perfect. Oh, don’t get me wrong, we all love our home offices and most of us who work from home wouldn’t trade what we do for anything. Just don’t look for our work areas in Staples or Office Depot catalogs.

Most of us can attest to the fact that when you work from home… your home is your office. You simply move what you’re working on from one room to the other. Laptops and Notebooks have helped home offices thrive. We can transport whatever it is we’re working on to whatever room we want to be in at the time. If a favorite show on the Food Network is on or my UK Wildcats or St. Louis Cardinals are on TV, it’s definitely time to roll.

Like any of them can get their game on without me.

The good people at Cartdesk.com would like for you to take a look at their modernlicious CartDesk. I’ve only seen a picture of the desk, myself, but it looks pretty sweet.

I am officially in the market for a laptop computer desk. I want one with wheels, so it can keep up with me as I motor from one room to the next.

When I’m not at my PC, my laptop and I like to make the rounds. We’ll set up our workstation at the kitchen table in the morning, because big windows, in the front of the room, allow for an excellent morning view of birds. I feed them first thing, then watch them jockey for position as they campaign for the largest seeds (the male cardinal is the most tenacious eater since the male human). I wouldn’t get in either’s way.

However, in the evening, I’d love for my laptop to join me for my favorite television shows – The Biggest Loser, Fringe, LOST (Finally back tomorrow night – yesss!). You know how it is.
