iWork Is A Great Alternative For Any Mac-Based Office

by office

Apple Iwork 05 For MacOoh, I just know I’m gonna’ catch some crud for this.

If you’re a MacAddict such as myself you might take a serious look at Apple’s new iWork software package. While it’s still a rather young bit of code, iWork’s two programs — Pages (a word processor) and Keynote (presentation software) — give Microsoft’s behemoth Word and PowerPoint programs a run for their money. Seriously.

While I am sure there are some Microsoft Word power-users out there who won’t find what they need in Apple’s Pages application, I think for the vast majority of basic users (such as myself,) Pages does everything that Word can do, but quicker, easier, and with a heck of a lot more style. Unlike Word, the pre-formatted templates that are included with Pages are absolutely gorgeous, providing a great jumping-off point for business letters, invoices, newsletters etc. On top of that, being a new program the code is still unbloated, and it really shows — this thing is speedy, even on a few of my older macs!

Keynote, Apple’s new presentation application, creates stunning graphs, charts and slideshows, and can output graphic files in all the standard formats, including TIFF, JPG, PDF, PNG, QuickTime and even PowerPoint. I’ve found it to be an excellent program for visualizing my earnings, overhead, etc. As is to be expected from Apple, Keynote couldn’t be any easier to use, and the results are stunning. PowerPoint can’t begin to compare.

If you’ve been anxiously awaiting a real alternative to Word & PowerPoint for your Mac, your time has finally come…iWork absolutely shines.

Preaching to the choir here. I like my PC fine, but I love my mac! ;) Pages is pretty nice. The hardest part for me switching to Mac last year has been getting all the software I need. I owned all the PC software so getting all new Mac software has taken a while.
