Many companies – online and off – are in full Back to School savings mode. Any office freak worth their weight in paper clips knows that means one thing: It’s Christmas in July! If you’re anything like me, you find yourself hovered around the season’s new notebooks, pens, binders (my pulse is starting to race), paper clips, index cards, post it notes – right there with the kiddies.

Remember the scene from Andy Griffith where Andy’s telling Opie and his friends about the Minute Men – trying to turn them on to history? Andy’s encouraging them to start a history club. I was perusing the seasons new binders yesterday at Target, amongst about 5 giggling little girls – and the scene above played out in my head. I didn’t let it deter me, though. I had my eye on a killer purple binder and had no intention of letting one of the gigglers get to it before me.

We Kentuckians have four seasons just like everyone else:

1. College Basketball Season
2. Post-College Basketball Season
3. Catch Your Breath Season (lasts an average of 3-1/2 days)
4. Pre-College Basketball Season

So, yeah, college basketball is pretty much always on our mind.  During the first season of the year (#1 if you were paying attention), our stores and malls are covered with blue-clad fanatics.  Every now and then there’ll be a University of Louisville fan.  Brave, brave souls.  They look like little cherry lifesavers in a blue ocean.

I’ve found  a new website that I’m absolutely addicted to – Useful Things.com.  They have gifts, gadgets, gizmos, and goodies that you literally just won’t find anywhere else. Best of all, everything is on the very, very cheap.

The first thing I ever got from Useful Things was the Posy Desktop Photo/Memo Holder you see pictured above.  When I saw its price ($12.95), I kind of thought, “Uh oh, this is going to be a hot little mess,” but I was  delighted to see that it’s not only very well made, it’s a knock out!

It’s perfect for showcasing  pictures of loved ones, whether they’re sweethearts, kids, pets, or yourself.  Whoever motivates you, inspires you, and makes you smile.  My favorite use for mine is this:  I like to put my most important To Do tasks on an index card – ones that are more like  Gotta Dos than To Dos – and then I stick the index card into one of the slots.

No excuses then! It’s right there staring at me along with my cats’ smiling faces.  This process has honestly helped a great deal, because you know how To Do lists  are – they get misplaced, stuff gets piled up on them, you forget if this was yesterday’s list or last week’s (hey, it happens).
