We get pretty busy, don’t we? Like big, less hairy versions of hamsters in wheels - we just keep moving and moving and moving. We only think we know what’s really important and what really matters. Making money, spending money, trips to the mechanic, broken appliances, tempermental computers, Google rankings, nasty blog comments, etc. etc. Just think for a minute about the things you’ve complained about over the past month.
I’m always up for making a fool of myself, so I’ll go first:
My arms aren’t toned enough.
I want a new computer desk.
Why do treadmills have to be so expensive?!
What do I have to do to get my ____ site to show up higher in GOOGLE?!
It’s sooooo cold…
I’m feeling amazingly good about myself right about now. < / sarcasm> You see, I just learned something heart-breaking. Cary Miller, the brilliantly talented young man who designed this blog and helped tremendously with its launching, recently lost his beautiful wife to cancer. She bravely (and I mean bravely) fought the disease for a long time, and in that time she touched many lives. Whether they were, like Lori, fighting for their own lives or not, she was a source of inspiration.
Equally inspirational was Cary’s love for Lori. Every word he wrote hugged her and refused to let go…refused to let her fight the monster alone. His words still hug his young bride who died far, far, far too young.
I used to check in on Lori through her blog (”Too Sexy for my Hair“) regularly. I’d read her words and, of course, pray for her. The last time I checked in, I thought she had taken a turn for the better - I honestly thought she was going to be okay. I remember even thinking, “Here’s one you aren’t going to get, Cancer!” I was totally blown away this morning when I went to Cary’s blog. As the blog was loading, I read the word “widowhood” in the title bar and felt my heart sink.
I just wanted to post a message to pay tribute to Cary, to Lori, and to the very special love they shared. I also wanted to apologize for not knowing about this and posting this message sooner.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of this very special lady.
I encourage you to visit Cary’s blog as well as the Too Sexy for my Hair blog - the writing is utterly beautiful and you’ll be touched in ways you never imagined. We’ll begin donating a percentage of the income Office Freaks generates to Lori’s favorite charities, detailed HERE.
When you hear about something like this, it makes the world absolutely stand still, doesn’t it? At least when it is still, we can finally realize what matters in life, and, certainly, what doesn’t matter.
