Office Organization

Shemergency Survival Kit from See Jane Work.comI was introduced to a new web site this evening and I couldn’t wait to tell you about it.  The name is See Jane Work and the merch is as clever as the name.  I’m sure you couldn’t tell by the name, but the site is geared toward women in the workplace.

You’re going to absolutely love everything See Jane Work has, including the sassy attitude.

The ShemergencySurvival Kit (above) is not only clever, it’s downright practical.  If I were to throw in my Starbucks card and a chocolate bar, I’d be set for anything life threw at me, even Mondays.

From the Web Site:

This compact case is stocked with 24 items including; a folding hair brush with mirror, hair spray, clear elastics, earring backs, hand lotion, nail clipper, an emery board, clear nail polish, nail polish remover, a mending kit, a safety pin, double-sided tape, lint remover, shoe shine wipes, stain remover, static remover, breath freshener, lip balm, dental floss, pain reliever, deodorant wipes, a tampon, adhesive bandages, and facial tissues.

Brilliant. This includes all the things we’re always caught without! (Have you ever had to use a tiny bit of eraser to substitute for a lost earring back?  Works well. Looks stupid.)

Check out See Jane Work asap. Be sure to grab some of the notebooks and journals before I snatch them all up.  What can I say, it’s a bit of an obsession.

Posy Desktop Photo and Memo Holder

I’ve found  a new website that I’m absolutely addicted to – Useful Things.com.  They have gifts, gadgets, gizmos, and goodies that you literally just won’t find anywhere else. Best of all, everything is on the very, very cheap.

The first thing I ever got from Useful Things was the Posy Desktop Photo/Memo Holder you see pictured above.  When I saw its price ($12.95), I kind of thought, “Uh oh, this is going to be a hot little mess,” but I was  delighted to see that it’s not only very well made, it’s a knock out!

It’s perfect for showcasing  pictures of loved ones, whether they’re sweethearts, kids, pets, or yourself.  Whoever motivates you, inspires you, and makes you smile.  My favorite use for mine is this:  I like to put my most important To Do tasks on an index card – ones that are more like  Gotta Dos than To Dos – and then I stick the index card into one of the slots.

No excuses then! It’s right there staring at me along with my cats’ smiling faces.  This process has honestly helped a great deal, because you know how To Do lists  are – they get misplaced, stuff gets piled up on them, you forget if this was yesterday’s list or last week’s (hey, it happens).

Find more   Office Gifts at Useful Things.com. While on the site,  check out the other “shops,” like the ones for the kitchen  and the home.   You’ll find them under the Shop Menu tab at the top.  You’re going to love these, I guarantee it.

Speaking of love, three words:  See Star Trek.  Three more:  Best Movie Ever.

in⋅ge⋅nu⋅i⋅ty –noun, plural -ties
1. the quality of being cleverly inventive or resourceful; inventiveness: a designer of great ingenuity.
2. cleverness or skillfulness of conception or design: a device of great ingenuity.
3. an ingenious contrivance or device

Change, change, change.  It’s the buzz word of the moment and the mindset of our generation.  Granted, there are some things that are changing that aren’t necessarily for the better – but from where I sit, most of the changes are positive.

One very positive change is the move toward wasting less, using less, and being smart about how we go about our daily lives.  You know, the change that dresses in green and demands that we all do our part to keep our world beautiful for all of its occupants – the ones with skin, fur, feathers, fins, or all of the above.  But enough about my inlaws*.

ipaperlessoffice.com is a website I think you’re going to love.

* I love and have loved all of my inlaws. They have each had skin and not one has sprouted feathers, fins, or fur. That I know of.

Staples Weekly Deals

I smell the skeptism on your breath. I know, I know – Dollar Days usually mean bins of cheap pens, rubber bands, erasers, and notebooks so tiny Smurfette could nap on them.

But Staples is stepping things up in a big way. Check out the following items that are just $1 this week.*

  • Writing pads, perforated, letter size, wide-ruled, 3/pack, it’d take a Smurf Village to fill these up
  • 4/Pack Dry-Erase Markers
  • 4/Pack Sharpie Permanent Markers
  • 6/Pack Highlighters
  • Medium Binder Clips (24/Pack)
  • Gold Paper Clips (100/Pack)
  • Quartet 8-1/2″ by 11″ Magnetic Dry Erase Board

In addition to the Dollar Days specials, there are a lot of office supplies that qualify for “Buy One, Get One Free.”  There are binders, notebooks, filler paper, plastic storage boxes (great for storing Christmas decorations, cans for recycling, etc.), photo paper, etc.

Finally, Staples is getting ridiculously generous with their chairs.  There are savings upwards of $50.   Click the button below to research their various brands and see which are marked down the most.  I noticed that the Sealy Semia Leather Executive Chair was marked down $70 this week.

Staples. That was easy.

* While supplies last and limit 2 per customer.

There’s a fine balance between running a HOME office and a home OFFICE. One side of my brain wants our home office to have nothing on its mind but business. I don’t want anything getting in the way of work glorious work. The other part of my brain (the fancier part) wants everything to be “pretty” and “homey.”

So I try to fill our home office with good looking, yet functional, items. The fancy pants side of my brain usually wins out, so I generally shop around for less-stuffy looking accessories and necessities.

When it comes to file holders, appliances, gadgets, and such, I usually stick with the color black. It looks so classy… so cool. It also goes with any other color scheme you throw its way. Also, unlike white accessories, which I used to be hooked on, they don’t show dings as badly.

That’s why I’ve fallen hard for these organizers from Rose Lane Cottage. They’re great-looking and functional. Rose Lane Cottage has a lot of gorgeous things for the home office (or a laid back “home away from home” office). There are lovely wall hangings for the office, folders, files, accessories, binders, clocks, notebooks, etc.

The Black Wire Letter Trays (Set of 2) and the Black ETC Wire File Folder Holders are also available in white. They’re so stylish and gorgeous, and would be the perfect place to “catch” all of the loose papers, envelopes, and, well… whatever this stuff is on my desk.

Rose Lane Cottage is a really fun website to browse, you’ll find so many things that’ll strike your fancy. And a fancy just isn’t worth having until it’s been struck.

Team Dilbert for the Win

Dilbert 2009 Softcover Engagement Calendar

You gotta love Dilbert. He’s up against it, you know? Surrounded by nut jobs and screw ups – but he keeps suiting up.

Don’t you sometimes feel like your life is a Dilbert comic strip and it’s YOU who are surrounded? Last night, my youngest daughter, Stephany, and I went to our favorite Subway. We’d never been to it later than 3:00, so the night crew (insert scream) was unfamiliar to us.

Anyway, we order try to order our sandwiches and what is normally a quick and easy ordeal became a long, drawn out, how stupid can these workers be comedy of errors. I was doing a good job fighting back the laughter until I caught sight of Steph’s face – her mouth was literally hanging open. I looked away just in time.

They were two girls and one was (insert a louder scream) about 6 months pregnant. They couldn’t have mustered 7 brain cells between them if their 3 lives depended on it. Seriously, cheese confused them.

Finally, the young pregnant girl says, “My body’s here but my brain isn’t.” I bit my tongue before “Not a first, I’m betting” came out.

The Dilbert calendars in this post are from Calendars.com and the time to buy them is, oh I dunno, now. The circumstances in our daily lives that make us have to bite our tongues make us laugh hysterically when they’re happening to someone else… And they’re always happening to poor Dilbert.

The calendar at the top of the post is the Dilbert 2009 Softcover Engagement Calendar.

Click on any of the links to take a closer look. If Dilbert is a little too close to reality for you, you’ll find an endless selection of other calendars on the website.
