Our home office actually needs… okay desperately needs… new phones. Our phones haven’t been themselves for a while now and I’m tired of waiting for them to come around. I was looking around at phones online and saw the Vtech DECT 6.0 Expandable 2-Handset Cordless Phone System with Digital Answering Device and Caller ID (CS6229-2), shown above.

I thought this was beyond interesting. One of my favorite companies, Staples, conducted a survey recently that led to the following revelations:

• 47 percent of respondents felt their stress level diminish after the simple act of shredding.
• 85 percent of the people felt smarter.
• 83 percent felt more organized.
• 80 percent felt more in control of their lives.
• 92 percent felt safer after shredding.
• 42 percent felt calmer.
• 86 percent loved the fact that shredding allowed them to rid themselves of clutter.
• Nearly half of the participants said that shredding helped them maintain a balanced life.

Maybe we’re onto something here!  Could the innocent-looking Royal KS7 7-sheet Cross-cut Shredder pictured above could put therapists and spa owners out of work?

“Staples’ consumer survey confirms what we have found in our research,” said Consumer Psychologist Richard Feinberg of Purdue University. “Consumers use products like a shredder for utilitarian purposes but then these products have very significant and positive emotional and psychological impacts. These psychological impacts may not even be known by the consumer, but they can unconsciously improve their life. In a world where people are time deprived, increasingly stressed, and feeling more and more out of control, shredding may provide positive psychological fuel.”

I wonder if the feelings of euphoria that come with paper shredding are similar to the joy ride my cat gets when she shreds the daylights out of her scratching post. In all seriousness, there must be something therapeutic about it.

I don’t know if it’s therapeutic or not, but I challenge you to say this post’s title 4 times fast. Just be sure no one else is around – it won’t be your finest hour.

I totally can’t relate to the concept of having only a few cups of coffee in the morning. And by not relate to, I mean the mere thought makes me break out in an uncomfortable rash.

However, I understand that not everyone is as addicted as I am – thanks be to the all-knowing God (what a world this would be if all of its people were as caffienated as me). In fact, I hear tell that some people actually get by on one or two cups each day – as in, not just the morning. It’s all they have all day.

For those rare birds, something like the Melitta 2-cup travel brewer would be perfect. My mom was this sort of coffee drinker. She’d have one cup in the morning and that was it. She claimed that if she had more than that she’d be awake for days. Amateur!

I always thought she kind of embarassed herself by even having a coffee maker – but she was family and I loved her, so I forgave her for her shortcomings. My dad…now there was a coffee drinker! The man could drink two pots of coffee during the day, then lay down and sleep like a beagle. With people like dad and me…the Melitta wouldn’t even stand a chance. But for the normal people in the world, it might be pretty nice.

Does your keyboard get all crunked up with dust and bits-o-whatever ?

Today I dropped by my local Staples store and grabben a kit called the AirDr from Digital Innovations.

Now you can BLAST away dust from cameras, keyboards, computers, A/V components, and office equipment with pinpoint accuracy.

It contains pure, oil-free, anti-static CO2 gas and delivers higher-velocity airflow than canned air.

It’s compact size houses an easy-to-replace 16-gram air cartridge and replacement cartridges are available.

It was only $14.98, which maqkes it about 3 times the cost of canned air, but I’m betting it will do more than 3 cans of that weak stuff will do and do a way better job in the process.

It’s much more agile and I can access parts of my computer case that have never been cleaned before.

I’ll let you know how long it lasts.

My CPU cooling fan and all the nooks and crannies in my case have never been cleaner.

Be careful, though, this puppy is way more powerful than those cans of air that are only good for selling and not for using.
