by Joi on February 25, 2008

Cool Green DeskLove it. Starbucks on a rainy day love it. Starbucks on a rainy day when someone else pays love it.

The Computer Desk - Kool Kolor KK206 is as cool as the underside of a penguin’s pillow and he knows it. I have to admit, the knock out color attracted me to it in the first place, but then I flipped for the style. The compact design makes it ideal for tight places, when your ideas exceed your space.

Specifications:

  • Finish: Lime Green
  • Desk Size: 30″Hx31.5″Wx24.5″D
  • Weight: . 34 lbs.
  • Cube: . 1.58
  • But, back to the color for just a minute. Not only is it a spectacular shade of lime green - it’s glossy! A glossy spectacular shade of lime green. If, for some reason, that’s not floating your boat, this hot desk is also available in orange and black. And, yes, they’re sporting the high gloss finish, too. Be warned though, he makes you feel as though you could face any challenge, overcome any obstacle, and come out on top of any situation.

    Good stuff.

    Tempting Bamboo Office Chair Mat

by Joi on February 9, 2008

The Anji Mountain Rug Co. Bamboo Office Chair Mat (pictured below) is from HomeClick.

    From the Web Site:
Anji Mountain Bamboo Rug Co.’s Original Bamboo Office Chair Mat* melds beauty, style and function to create an alternative to the bland, utilitarian vinyl chair mat. There is no product like this in the marketplace!

The Bamboo Office Chair Mat is incredibly durable and will add an elegant touch to any office or home office setting. Furthermore, it is easy to ship and easy to transport. No assembly required!

    • 55″ x 57″ with tongue
    • 100% Anji Mountain Bamboo
    • 5mm thick
    • Honey Oak color
    • Premium felt backing for cushioning and protection
    • Rolls up for easy shipping and portability

Oh, prettiness, prettiness. I absolutely love the way this chair mat looks - and these last so much longer than those plastic thinga-ma-ja-bobs. If you’re a proud owner of a plastic thinga-ma-ja-bob, don’t fire off angry e-mails at me accusing me of hating on your chair mat. Alas, I spend my day hudging, budging, and sailing along on a hard ocean of plastic as well.

    For now.

    The Ultimate Paper Jam!

by Joi on February 5, 2008

Here’s a great entry for the Samsung Printer Giveaway contest:

Temperamental would be a good word to describe the monstrously behemoth laser printer in my office. One day, in the midst of a large printing job, it abruptly stopped due to a paper jam. I became dumbstruck when I opened the tray to see what the problem was. There, smack dab on the jammed piece of paper was the perfect impression of a large cockroach! On closer inspection, I realized a cockroach had rolled through the rollers and then traveled through the laser printer. The cockroach had unwittingly sacrificed his life to become a unique piece of office art which subsequently adorned our bulletin board. Thus, the ultimate paper jam has since gone down in our office history. - MKR

I love that they made him into art!

    When the World Stands Still

by Joi on February 3, 2008

We get pretty busy, don’t we? Like big, less hairy versions of hamsters in wheels - we just keep moving and moving and moving. We only think we know what’s really important and what really matters. Making money, spending money, trips to the mechanic, broken appliances, tempermental computers, Google rankings, nasty blog comments, etc. etc. Just think for a minute about the things you’ve complained about over the past month.

I’m always up for making a fool of myself, so I’ll go first:

    My arms aren’t toned enough.

I want a new computer desk.

Why do treadmills have to be so expensive?!

What do I have to do to get my ____ site to show up higher in GOOGLE?!

    It’s sooooo cold…

I’m feeling amazingly good about myself right about now. < / sarcasm> You see, I just learned something heart-breaking. Cary Miller, the brilliantly talented young man who designed this blog and helped tremendously with its launching, recently lost his beautiful wife to cancer. She bravely (and I mean bravely) fought the disease for a long time, and in that time she touched many lives. Whether they were, like Lori, fighting for their own lives or not, she was a source of inspiration.

Equally inspirational was Cary’s love for Lori. Every word he wrote hugged her and refused to let go…refused to let her fight the monster alone. His words still hug his young bride who died far, far, far too young.

I used to check in on Lori through her blog (”Too Sexy for my Hair“) regularly. I’d read her words and, of course, pray for her. The last time I checked in, I thought she had taken a turn for the better - I honestly thought she was going to be okay. I remember even thinking, “Here’s one you aren’t going to get, Cancer!” I was totally blown away this morning when I went to Cary’s blog. As the blog was loading, I read the word “widowhood” in the title bar and felt my heart sink.

I just wanted to post a message to pay tribute to Cary, to Lori, and to the very special love they shared. I also wanted to apologize for not knowing about this and posting this message sooner.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of this very special lady.

I encourage you to visit Cary’s blog as well as the Too Sexy for my Hair blog - the writing is utterly beautiful and you’ll be touched in ways you never imagined. We’ll begin donating a percentage of the income Office Freaks generates to Lori’s favorite charities, detailed HERE.

When you hear about something like this, it makes the world absolutely stand still, doesn’t it? At least when it is still, we can finally realize what matters in life, and, certainly, what doesn’t matter.
