Are There Any Assholes In Your Office?

by Mike on March 25, 2007

Work In Progress

If you have one or more assholes in your office, you might want to read this post by Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, a blogger for TIME/CNN.

The book she touts seems like agreat read too, but I may never get a chance to read it, unless they send a copy and I have the better half of this blogging duo do that for me.

Click thru and read this great post about office assholes.

Office Productivity from a Crabby Point of View

by Joi on March 22, 2007

In the fashion world, there’s the High End and there’s the Low End. There’s Karl Lagerfeld and then there’s Kohl’s. When it comes to Office Productivity, there are two ends, as well. On one end - the one comparable to Lagerfeld’s, there are Power Point presentations, Microsoft Office suites, Excel, Share Point Designers (Share what?). etc.

Then there’s my end. I live on the Kohl’s end, natch. But I’m happy here. I know my way around, which means I don’t bump into things or get in people’s way. Give me my WordPress blogs, my website cpanels, a few graphic programs, WordPad, and keep the coffee flowing and I’m as busy and content as a hummingbird in a bed of red cannas.

For those of you who have to venture into the mid to higher end of Office Productivity, me trying to provide you with any information whatsoever would be like my husband trying to bake homemade sourdough bread. A mess would be made and everything would fall flat.

I’m all for leaving things to the experts, so I’ll keep the hubby away from my bread dough and I’ll steer clear of the higher end of Office Productivity.

What I can do is point you in a wonderful, even amusing, direction. I’m sending you over to a crabby woman who flat out knows her stuff. The article I’m linking you to is called How Crabby Learned to Delegate (and Lead a More Normal Life). After you’ve read this article, you really should check out her other articles. I know it’d be the first place I’d head to if I needed help with anything. She’s all over it.

Beautiful Fish Aquariums for the Office or Home

by Joi on March 20, 2007

Have you ever had an aquariam in your home or office? If you have, you know why they’re so highly recommended for reducing stress and anxiety. The presence of an aquariam full of exotic fish not only looks very stylish and high-brow, it also serves as an instant stress reducer. So much so that it’s a wonder every dentist office in the world doesn’t have at least one. It should be an unwritten law or something. My apologies to all of those in the noble profession of dentistry, buy you people stress me right out. You always look so innocent, clean and friendly - then you arm yourself with those little tools of torture and transform into the spawn of all nightmares.

Maybe fish would help. Unlike those little pokey things, they couldn’t hurt.

LiveAquaria.com has absolutely everything you could ever need or want to get a great aquarium up and running. They have LIVE Corals, LIVE Aquarium Plants, Saltwater Aquarium Fish, Pond Fish, supplies, sand, rock, snails, and aquariums like you’ve never seen. These things are absolute masterpieces! There are an amazing number of styles and colors, and the Aquarium stands come in a variety of finishes.

Their website features some great articles that are prepared to answer all of your questions before you even ask them. Below are just a few of the titles I found:

See LiveAquaria.com for these articles and a lot more. Trust me, there’s more to the website than you could even imagine. I think you’ll fall hard for all of the gorgeous fish as well as the aquariums. I wasn’t there even 10 minutes before my mind started roaming around our house looking for the perfect spot for a beautiful aquatic display. It was a successful journey - it returned with all sorts of possibilities.

by Joi on March 12, 2007

Discovery Shiatsu Massage Cushion with Spot Therapy
Friday and Saturday were so gorgeous that I HAD to find a billion and one things to do outside. Walking at the park, picking up sticks, cleaning yard furniture (granted, some things were funner than others)….

By the time Sunday afternoon rolled around, my back (which has never been the same after a wreck years ago) wasn’t very happy, and it was letting its displeasure known. Fiercely.

Sitting at my desk chair wasn’t a real treat - I kept thinking how incredibly cool it would be if my chair would give me a massage. But, when I brought up the idea, it was clueless. “Massage? Wha–

by Joi on March 5, 2007

Supplies USA

There’s another option for you to strongly consider when you’re shopping for Computer Supplies. If, that is, you’re interested in a huge selection of supplies at better prices. At Supplies USA.com, you can find original computer supplies and printer supplies at better prices than large office supplies or computer chains. How huge of a selection? The Over 50 brands and more than 5000 items type of selection. The best kind!

……3M, Apple, Avery, BenQ, Brother, Canon, Citizen, Compaq, Copystar, DEC, Dymo, Epson, Exabyte, Fuji, Genicom, Gestetner, Hitachi, HP, IBM, Imation, InFocus, Iomega, Kodak, Konica, Kyocera, Lanier, Lexmark, Maxell, Memorex, Minolta, Mita, Mitsubishi, Muratec, NEC, Oki, Optoma, Output, Panasonic, PM Company, Printronix, Proxima, QMS, Quantum, Ricoh, Riso, Samsung, Savin, Seiko, Sharp, Sony, Tally, TDK, Tektronix, TI, Toshiba, Troy, Verbatim, Viewsonic, Xerox…

The names I just dropped are the quality brands you’ll find at Supplies USA.com. They have a massive selection of computer supplies, printer supplies, projector lamps, data supplies, high quality oem toner and inkjet cartridges (no refilled or reconditioned).

  • Discount prices on all items
  • Easy web site navigation
  • Shipping from warehouses nationwide
  • Orders processed same day
  • A current Shopzilla customer rating of 10/10 (2/28/07)
  • The fact that orders are processed the same day combined with shipping from 20 locations nationwide means that you get your order sooner than you’d imagine.

From the website: We ship from more than 20 locations nationwide so we are always close to your location. Most orders placed before 4:00PM local time ship the same day so we provide you timely delivery no matter where you are in the USA. We gladly ship to APO and FPO addresses via USPS. We also ship bulk to International Customers.

New items and new brands are regularly added to Supplies USA.com, so check back often - the chances are excellent that they’ll have exactly what you’re looking for and at a price you couldn’t have even hoped for!

As a bonus, from my experience, you often get better service from a quality business like Supplies USA than from the larger chains. Their service is more personable. You feel like you and your business are important to them, rather than feeling like you’re just another order.

Check out Supplies USA.com, you’ll be impressed. If you don’t need any supplies at the moment, bookmark the site and give them a chance the next time a need (or want!) comes up. I have a very, very good feeling that you’ll use them again and again.

*The above was a sponsored post - which means I was paid to give a review. The praise is my own because I was genuinely impressed. You know me, by now, and know that I’d never recommend anything to you that I wouldn’t use myself. Supplies USA.com will get my next order, because I really like what I see.

Bringing More Professionalism to Your Home Business

by Joi on March 5, 2007

Okay, I’ll confess, I’m one of those people who needs to approach their home business with more professionalism. I have to own up to some terribly lazy and slacking habits. Like the days when 10:00 hits and I’m still in my gown and houseshoes, coffee cup nearby. It actually doesn’t happen very often, but more than it should.

I’m also terrible about checking my answering machine for messages. When I go out, whether it’s to Starbuck’s, the Mall, Real Hacienda (a favorite authentic Mexican restaurant), Kroger, or Kohl’s….I inevitably forget to check phone messages when I get back home. I guess I’m always so giddy over what’s come home with me that everything else flies out of my mind. Bad, bad coffee addicted, grocery shopping, Chalupa eating clothes hound.

When we operate with more professionalism, we command more respect - from others, as well as ourselves. It shows that we care about what we do and that we have every intention of doing it well. Whether its our dress, how we approach our work, our priorities, or our attitude in general - the more professionalism we show the world, the better.

Easy Ways to Create a Professional Image for Your Home-Based Business is a post every self-employeed individual will want to read. It’s on Lifehack.org - so you know it’s a quality piece.

I’ve been inspired to check my messages each time I’ve been away, to always be dressed by 9:00, and to not shop during the…..no, I can’t even say that last one - it hasn’t a shred of intention to back it up.

The Excalibur Electronic Executive Touch Solitaire

by Joi on March 3, 2007

This would be the Excalibur Electronic Executive Touch Solitaire from Macy’s.com. What this would not be is me suggesting that any of you take it to work. You leave it at home, no matter how badly it wants to go with you to the office. Sometimes, as the adult, you just have to be strong.

Solitaire is such an addictive game - I play it, without fail, everyday on the computer. I play until I win - but if I win too soon (which is the case because I’m that damngood) I play until I win again. If it’s been an unbelievably stoooopid day, I play until my eyes get so juggled that Jay Z starts to look like Jamie Foxx.

Of course, if you were to buy the Excalibur Electronic Executive Touch Solitaire, you’d have to fight the temptation to take it with you to the office. That just….well…it just wouldn’t be right.

What? Did you think I’d suggest you keep it in your drawer for those times that the boss (or if you ARE the boss, your secretary) is out of the office. Did you think I’d tell you something like “All work and no play makes blog reader a dull boy/girl.”?

I guess I could point out how stress-relieving and calming it is to play a handheld game such as this one. How it helps things to come back into focus, allowing you to see more clearly that which was getting dirt water cloudy. Well, that’s all true, of course. But you can’t take toys with you to the office. Gee Wally, if you do that, the next thing you know, you’ll be surfing the web on company time - going from one celebrity blog to the next…leaving a trail of bald Britneys behind you.

So, it stays home, right?

From the website:
Take solitaire on the road without having to play 52-card pickup in the process. This electronic solitaire game displays everything you need to play on a large touch-screen display. Just grab the included stylus, move cards across the screen and work your way towards sweet victory.

To make it all the sweeter, it’s only $19.98! That practically makes it a must have for taking to the office, to your in-laws for dinner, on long summer trips, etc. Talk about Fun on the Run.

And The Superficial is my favorite. Celebrity blog, that is.

London Office Space

by Joi on March 2, 2007

London Office Space

The following is a Sponsored Review*.

I’ve always had a very strong desire to spend time in England. One of the reasons is that I’m fascinated with just about everything British - from their dry wit to their laid-back approach to life, in general, I’ve just always felt quite fond of them….and then there’s my girl crush on Helen Mirren. I’d, of course, also love to see the palace, Kensington Gardens, the Victoria Memorial, the guards, and the Albert Memorial. It’d be like a fairy tale come to life. Especially if Helen’s there.

So when I got the opportunity to review the website, London Office Space, one of my first thoughts was, “I’ll be there one day!”

The website is all about location. Location, location, location. It takes the guess work, phone work, and leg work out of finding office space in London. They do all of that for you! It’s a really brilliant service, and the first time I’ve ever seen it in action. I’ve heard of services that help you find physicians, rentals, and dentists - but this is the first one I’ve seen that will help you locate the perfect office space.

From London Office Space’s About Page:

London Office Space exists to help you find serviced offices in the capital. Whether you want a one man workstation in Old Street or an entire floor in Heathrow, our experienced consultants are on call to find you the perfect London Office Space.

Each consultant specializes in a specific area of London so they know the city and its surrounding areas well. Simply choose a few offices that you’re interested in and fill out the form for more information or to arrange a viewing. Keep Reading….

I love that they have specialized consultants. You can be 100 percent certain that the person you’re dealing with is on top of his or her game - rather than it being on top of them! If more businesses implemented this much thought into what they were doing, the world would be a lot easier to navigate around in.

There is a great map of london on the website (pictured above) in which you choose the area that interests you - whether it’s East London, Metropolitan, Victoria, Hammersmith, etc. Then can zoom in and get a closer look.

The Key at the bottom provides you with even more information about your potential location: Interchange Stations, Accessible Riverboat Connection, Step Free Access from the platform to the street, and more.

In addition to helping you find the perfect place and perfect space - London Office Space has a very informative collection of articles dealing with Offices and Office life. I’ve read each of the articles and guarantee you that each are worth reading. I’m so sure you’ll enjoy them that I’ll link to them directly below! Find the one that interests you - then after you’ve read that one, choose another from the website’s sidebar. Just leap from one to the next until you’ve learned all there is to know about Office Life, and you’re so full of knowledge that you can’t stand yourself.

*So, what’s a Sponsored Review? Basically, it means that someone has asked me to form an opinon, and then to share that opinion, with our readers. They will graciously pay me for this review - which is what makes it a Sponsored Review. I want to make it perfectly clear, however, that they have never requested a “positive” review - just a review.

Fortunately for all concerned, the review could only be a positive one because they’re website is nothing short of brilliant!
